Women have played their part in shaping the history and image of the "City among the shades of Hercules". Even though the bombings of WWII have buried some of the places where women lived and worked we can still find many interesting traces of female impact on the history of the city.
The Archive of the German Women's Movement has developed guided tours (walks as well as cruises) which allow an expedition across two centuries of women's history in Kassel. Historical anecdotes, serious and cheerful episodes, highs and lows, numbers and facts about the ado of the women's movement, about female parliamentarians and workers, about the development of school system, nursing care, education and everyday-life as well as biographic portrayals of individual women in Kassel are vividly presented.
The guided city tours are in German.
